Skylight is a placemaking and venue development group that unites distinct real estate and global brands to create cultural centers. We are urban archaeologists revitalizing spaces through the art of gathering.

From forgotten transportation hubs to Manhattan penthouses to downsized manufacturing plants, we see what once was and what might be. Drawing a site’s history and possibility together into a singular vision, we strategically unite property owners, creators, neighbors, and city and community leaders under shared goals.

We bike and walk down grand avenues, through industrial parks, and along abandoned waterways to the corners of our built environment where good bones lay buried. Then we bring them to life with the imaginations of innovators, brand storytellers, and filmmakers. In the process, we cultivate places for human connection.

Founded and built by lovers of history, literature and art, Skylight has been transforming challenge into value since 2008. Countless partners—from mom-and-pop landlords to the world’s largest developers—and a dozen cities later, we continue to create environments to meet the needs of a new generation of collaborators.

Stephanie Blake

CEO

Stephanie Blake is CEO of Skylight, the pioneering placemaking firm transforming buildings, districts and neighborhoods across North America. With offices in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, Skylight discovers and reimagines spaces in some of the most storied neighborhoods in the world and creates iconic foundations for the most influential brands in fashion, art, design, media, and technology.

Stephanie provides strategic vision for Skylight by fusing her passion for history, culture, and architecture with her marketing and tech background. She delivers unique solutions to drive revenue in underutilized spaces by creating soulful venues for unforgettable experiences. Stephanie has guided Skylight’s expansion beyond physical buildings to create innovative solutions that enliven neighborhoods, districts, and public spaces and shape the future of urban developments.

Leaning on her depth of relationships and experience working with some of the world’s most recognized brands and Fortune 100 companies, Stephanie led the transformation of what is now Moynihan Train Hall, the landmarked century old post office building in midtown NYC, from a languishing government building into one of New York City’s most sought-after venues, making it home New York’s Fashion Week.

Skylight’s other transformative projects include developing the events program for the High Line park, working with Google on its ground plane plan in the South Bay and partnering with Ford on the revitalization of Michigan Central in Detroit. Skylight’s work for Brookfield Properties recast Manhattan’s West Village Bleecker Street from a retail graveyard into a vibrant and thriving artist and merchant residency that revitalized foot traffic and energy to the neighborhood, setting tenants up for growth and success. The firm’s footprint in Los Angeles has grown exponentially from 32 acres in DTLA to the Redondo Beach power plant to a Culver City warehouse to a parking garage once known as the Forgotten Edge.

Stephanie also led Skylight into its expansive work in the film and television industry to provide some of the most interesting locations for filming, content and immersive. Skylight converted an 800 acre steel manufacturing plant on Lake Ontario, outside of Toronto, into a canvas for film and content production for Apple to Hulu to Star Trek. Skylight’s relationships in the entertainment industry led to the interactive activation for Netflix’s Stranger Things at Skylight ROW DTLA, Netflix’s first drive into immersive experience at the beginning of COVID. From there, Skylight’s venues have become home to many more Netflix experiences around the country as well as Van Gogh and Picasso and more.

Upon graduating from Yale University with a degree in History, Stephanie spent half a decade with Google in the Bay Area, Buenos Aires and New York. A first generation American, Stephanie spent many summers in her parents’ hometown of Kingston, Jamaica, where she developed a passion for ackee & saltfish, the ocean and scotch bonnet peppers. She sits on the junior board of Creative Time, the General Plan Advisory Council to the city of Petaluma, the Yale Real Estate Association, Yale Women in Bay Area, and is active in a variety of other non-profit and arts’ organizations. She resides in the Bay Area with her husband and three children.
